How to Collect Pressed Pennies

Pressed pennies are created by inserting a regular penny into a rolling mill and using a hand crank to push it between two steel rollers creating a flat penny with a design on both sides. Pressed penny machines are commonly found at tourist attractions and are a great way to collect souvenirs of your travels. If you are interested in collecting pressed pennies, here are some tips for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the tourist sites in your area. Pressed penny machines can be found at zoos, theme parks, museums, aquariums and observation decks. The easiest way to collect pressed pennies is just by visiting popular area attractions and keeping an eye out for the distinctive rolling mill machines.

    • 2

Try eBay. EBay or other online auction sites can be a good way to expand your pressed penny collection and to find those pennies that aren't easy to track down.

    • 3

Check out coin shops and garage sales. Older pressed pennies are often found in coin shops and in other places like garage sales, yard sales and flea markets. Be sure to keep an eye out for pressed pennies any time you visit a place where used items or collectors' items are sold.
