How to Remove Glue From Postcards

Old postcards can be valuable collector's items, as well as meaningful keepsakes. However, postcards sometimes get a glue residue on them if they have been glued into a scrapbook or onto a display. Luckily a little glue on a postcard doesn't mean that it's ruined. The most effective method for removing glue from postcards depends on the physical properties of the glue itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Observe whether the glue is clumpy or dry and flaky.

    • 2

Scrape the glue gently with a craft knife if it is dry and flaky. Do this slowly and gently so that you don't scratch or tear the postcard.

    • 3

Soften the glue if it is clumpy by dabbing on some glue solvent, which can be purchased at most hardware stores. Apply a few drops of solvent to a clean cloth and then dab the cloth onto the glue.

    • 4

Rub the glue off with a cotton swab after it has been dabbed with the solvent.
