How to Repair LP Seam Splits

People cherish their record collection. In the digital music era, music lovers still purchase vinyl records for their artwork, less fatiguing audio range, collectibility and the deliberate, involved practice of placing the LP on the spindle, listening to a side and flipping it over. An LP's tangibility makes it susceptible to wear and eventual damage, such as album cover seam splits. You can repair these splits with a variety of techniques using everyday supplies.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a piece of construction paper approximately the length of the split LP seam and approximately 2 inches wide with a scissors.

    • 2

Cut a piece of 3-inch-wide clear plastic tape approximately the same length as the paper with the scissors.

    • 3

Lay the folded paper flat against the adhesive side of the tape.

    • 4

Fold the paper and tape in half lengthwise so the adhesive side of the tape faces outward.

    • 5

Set the LP cover upright on your work surface and insert the paper and tape into the cover so the bottom of its "V" shape lines up with the cover seam.

    • 6

Press the cover together so the tape adheres to the inside of the seam.

    • 7

Clip binder clips onto the seam to hold the sides of the cover against the clamp. Allow the tape to adhere fully before removing the binder clips.

    • 8

Cut away any paper or tape sticking out of the opening of the cover with scissors.
