How to Find Someone That Buys Records

With the popularity of CDs and digital music it can be hard to find people to buy your old music records. If you want to sell some of your records or your entire collection you have a few different options to choose from such as looking for local businesses to buy your records, putting out classified ads online or in newspapers, or auctioning your collection over the Internet.

Instructions

    • 1

Look through a copy of your local Yellow Pages for music shops or record stores that will buy records. Some shops, especially small locally-owned businesses, will buy records from people. You may also use the Yellow Pages to find any consignment shops that may sell your records for you and then give you a portion of money from the sale.

Visit the website CraigsList.org, which allows you to post free classified ads. Click on the link for the city nearest you and then click on "Post to Classifieds" in the upper right corner. Click on "For Sale" and then on either the "General For Sale," "Collectibles" or "CD/DVD/VHS" sections (there is no section for just "Music" or "Records"). Create a title for your post indicating what you are selling, an e-mail address at which you can be contacted about the sale and then describe the records you are selling, what kind of condition they are and how much you're selling them for. Click on "Add/Edit Images" to upload a photo of your records to the ad. Click "Continue," confirm your ad, and it will be posted on the site for a maximum of 45 days.

    • 3

Contact your local newspaper and buy an ad to run on their classified pages. Ask the representative at the newspaper about the different costs of running ads and how long an ad will run for. Most likely, the cost of your ad will depend on how many words it is and how many days you want the ad to run. While a newspaper's classifieds section isn't free like CraigsList.org, running an ad in a local newspaper will help you reach a whole different group of people.

Auction off or sell your records on eBay.com. Sign-in to your eBay account if you already have one or create an account by clicking on "Register" and following the on-screen instructions. Click on "Sell" and then "List Your Item" and enter keywords or a UPC code for your records. Select the proper listing category in which your records will be placed and click "Continue." Write a subject heading indicating what kind of records you're selling as well as a detailed product description. Add photos of your records by clicking on "Add a Photo" and outline the minimum price you're willing to sell your records at and your planned method of shipping. Click "Save and Preview" and your listing will go online for seven days.

Hold a garage or yard sale and place your records out for sale. In addition to selling your records you can make money by selling other personal belongings as well.
