How to Make a Record Mailer

Making a record mailer is not difficult, but it is worth learning how to do if you plan on mailing any albums or singles. Since records are not as popular as they once were, it is faster to make mailers for them yourself than to find the specialty package designed for shipping records. Best of all, you can recycle previously-used cardboard for this project, so cost is minimal.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the record sleeve with the tape measure, if your record has a sleeve. If not, place the record on a doubled layer of tissue paper and fold the paper so the record is covered completely, making something similar to a record sleeve. Tape or fold the edges of the tissue paper closed. Write down the measurement of the sleeve.

    • 2

Mark a line on the cardboard matching the both the length and width of the record sleeve. Mark at least an inch beyond that for your cut marks for both length and width. Using the straightedge and a pen, draw lines across the cardboard at the new outer markings. Cut the cardboard on this line using the utility knife. Use the straightedge as a guide to help cut a straight line.

    • 3

Cut a second piece of cardboard to match the first piece. Wrap the record sleeve (or tissue paper sleeve) in newspaper to help protect the sleeve and record. Place the wrapped record between the cardboard sheets, making a "sandwich." Tape the sandwich securely closed on all sides with packing tape.
