How to Package Record Albums for Shipping

If you can remember the process of playing a record album on a turntable--having to line the needle up just right to hear the song you wished to hear--perhaps you are old enough to appreciate these vintage vinyl discs. Those who collect records might occasionally need to ship them. Package record albums for shipping carefully, to ensure they stay safe and sound as they travel across the country.

Things You'll Need

  • Tissue paper
  • Clear tape
  • Newspapers
  • Thin cardboard (cereal boxes)
  • 12.25-inch by 15.5-inch by 3-inch shipping box (flat--unassembled)
  • Clear packaging tape

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the record album in tissue paper to cover it completely and to protect the outer album from scuffs and scratches. Tape the tissue paper securely around the album.

    • 2

Wrap the album with a 1/4-inch thick layer of newspapers. Tape the newspapers around the album to hold them in place securely (as if you are gift-wrapping the album in newspaper).

    • 3

Place thin cardboard around the wrapped album, and tape the cardboard securely over the newspapers.

    • 4

Keep the shipping box flat--do not assemble it. Slide the prepared album into the flat box and center it inside the box. Fold the two opposite open flaps over, and seal them with the adhesive on the box flaps.

    • 5

Tape the entire flat box well, paying special attention to the flaps in the corners.

    • 6

Address the box and write a warning on the front not to "bend" the box.
