How to Clean Blue Topaz

Blue topaz is a gemstone that, like other precious and semi-precious stones, may need cleaning once in a while to restore its natural beauty. Simple dish soap is ideal for cleaning topaz. Avoid harsh chemicals and cleansers, as they may damage the stone or its appearance. With proper care, your blue topaz will retain its luster for years to come.

Instructions

    • 1

Squirt a small amount of dish soap into a bowl of warm water. Mix gently with your hand.

    • 2

Place your blue topaz in the soapy water. Allow it to sit for 10 to 20 minutes.

    • 3

Remove the stone from the water. Carefully scrub it with a toothbrush or soft cloth that has been dipped into the soapy water. If necessary, add a little more soap to the toothbrush or cloth.

    • 4

Dip the stone back into the soapy water to clear away any residue. Lift it out and look closely for any spots that may need more cleaning. Continue cleaning, if necessary.

    • 5

Scrub the areas around the stone's setting, if it is set in a piece of jewelry. Gently push the toothbrush bristles into the setting areas and clean around any prongs or metal pieces that hold the stone in place. These areas often collect the most grunge on a piece of jewelry.

    • 6

Dump the soapy water down the drain. Rinse the bowl out and fill with clean warm water. Clean the soap off of the topaz by dipping the stone into the clean water and rubbing the stone with your fingers.

    • 7

Dry the blue topaz off on a soft cloth or towel.
