Things You'll Need
Instructions
Find a location in Colorado known for geodes. Wolf Creek Pass, Whitewater, Felch Creek and Houselog Creek are all known for their geode finds.
Dig down into the earth. Geodes are often buried deep beneath the layers of dirt. Carefully sift through the dirt as you dig, searching for rocks. You may need to use a pick or hammer and chisel in more solid rock beds.
Look for spherical-shaped rocks. Almost all geodes are round in shape. They also generally look very plain from the outside. Place all of these aside.
Open potential geodes carefully. Breaking with a hammer and chisel can result in smashing the geode. Cutting the geode open is preferred and can be done at local rock shops.
