Mineral Rock Hunting Sites in Texas

Rock hunting can be hot, dirty work, especially in Texas. But no matter how hot and dirty, you'll be proud to hold up a chunk of Texas' famous blue topaz, agate, jasper or petrified wood after a long day of hammering and chipping.

  1. Blue Topaz

    • Blue Topaz is the Texas state gem and is found in the Llano Uplift region, as well as the Texas Hill Country in Mason County.

    Petrified Palm Wood

    • Classified as the official state stone, petrified palm wood can be found in east Texas and along the Gulf Coast

    Agates and Jaspers

    • Woodward Agate Ranch offers over 3,000 acres for hunting their famous agates and jaspers. Be prepared to pay a fee if you want a guide and 50 cents per pound of rough agate you collect. The ranch is 18 miles south of Alpine on Texas 118.
