How to remove gold from quartz
Study the quartz for a weak spot where it might crack easily. Wearing your safety glasses, break the large rock pieces into smaller pieces on a hard surface like concrete. Use a sledge hammer on large chunks and a crack hammer on smaller pieces.
Pick the suitable pieces for the dolly pot. Use a pestle to pound one or two pieces at a time into a small enough size to free the gold from the quartz.
Use the sieve to sift the gold poundings into a gold pan. If there is anything left in the sieve, it must be pounded again with the pestle in the dolly pot until the particles are small enough to be sieved.
Once all the powder from the sieve is in the gold pan, submerge the pan in 6 - 10 inches of water. Slowly stir the pan with both hands to saturate the powder with water.
Shake the pan in a circular or back and forth manner while it is still under water. This stratifies the powder in layers so the heavier minerals end up on the bottom and lighter materials move to the top.
Tilt the pan so the less dense material is poured out. Repeat shaking the pan under water and pouring out the dense materials until you're left with heavy mineral concentrates and the gold can be seen. Remove the gold and package as necessary.
