How to Clean Aquamarine Gemstones

Aquamarine, a gemstone of the Beryl family, possesses moderate hardness at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale. Much beloved for its ocean-blue color, impeccable transparency, and flexible pairing potential, aquamarine must be cleaned on occasion to maintain its shine and sparkle. Due to its relative hardness, cleaning an aquamarine is not a difficult process as long as the cleaner is gentle and deliberate in action.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the small bowl halfway with warm water. According to Jewels for Me, it is not wise to use hot water, as the rapid temperature shift can cause thermal shock.

    • 2

Add one pump of mild liquid soap to the warm water. Mix with your finger.

    • 3

Place the aquamarine stone in the soapy water and let it soak for five minutes.

    • 4

Gently scrub the stone with the toothbrush, making sure to scrub all facets and corners.

    • 5

Dry and polish the stone with the soft polishing towel.
