How to Clean Unpolished Crystals & Other Rocks

If you're a rock hound, or have visited a mining operation, you may have a collection of crystals and other rocks that are gathering dust because you haven't a clue how to clean them. Since many crystals are found in riverbeds or dug from the ground, they often are encrusted with dirt or clay that hides their natural beauty. You'll be pleased to learn it's not too difficult to clean unpolished crystals and rocks; you can have the task finished in 30 minutes and be ready to display your treasures to all.

Things You'll Need

  • Small bowl
  • 1 teaspoon dish soap
  • Soft bristled scrub brush
  • Dish towel or paper towels

Instructions

      Fill a small bowl with hot water. Add the dish soap and mix to dissolve the soap.

      Place your crystals and other rocks into the soapy water; allow to soak for one half hour.

      Lift a crystal from the soapy water and scrub it gently with a soft bristled brush, rinsing often until all dirt and clay has been removed from the crystal.

      Place the crystal on a dry dish towel to air dry. Repeat the process for the other rocks in your collection.
