Understand where to look for thundereggs. Because they are a product of volcanic activity, they can only be found in areas that have experienced volcanic activity in the past.
Know that thundereggs are found as nodules within other rocks. The rocks that contain thundereggs are igneous rocks.
Search the Internet for listings of areas to hunt for thundereggs. They are commonly found in the state of Oregon. See link in Resources for a website that lists sites where thundereggs have been found. Additionally, there are other websites devoted to rock hounds and thundereggs. Some of these websites charge a fee for collectors.
Talk to local rock collectors in your area about where to find thundereggs. They may be able to provide you with tips on where to go look for thundereggs and may even be willing to go collecting with you.
Stop by your local college or university's geology or Earth Science Department. A professor or instructor in that department may also be able to guide you towards thunderegg sites.
