Instructions

    • 1

When you find a shark's tooth, clean away any dead flesh, then blot it dry with a towel. Wrap the tooth in a dry paper towel, then store it in a sealed plastic bag until you get home.

    • 2

If the shark tooth has an odor, place it in a plastic bowl, and cover it with equal portions of salt and baking soda, making sure the tooth is completely coated with the mixture. Seal the plastic bowl with an airtight lid or plastic wrap, and freeze it overnight.

    • 3

Thaw the shark tooth, and remove the salt and baking soda mixture with a damp cloth. Prepare a cleaning solution of equal portions bleach and water, then add 1 tsp. dish-washing liquid. Let the shark tooth soak for an hour, then gently scrub any remaining debris or flesh from it. If the tooth is fragile, take special care when scrubbing, so it will not be damaged.

    • 4

Place the shark tooth on a clean, dry towel, and allow it to dry. It is preferable to dry the tooth in the warm sun, but this is not mandatory.
