How to Make a Shoebox in a Baseball Player Design

For decades, kids have collected their baseball cards in the most convenient containers close at hand--usually their parents' discarded shoe boxes. By happy coincidence, shoe boxes are nearly the perfect size for most baseball cards. For a fun family project, why not dress up those boxes with images of your kids' favorite player or players?

Instructions

  1. Finding Images

    • 1

Visit websites that contain quality images of baseball players. Several sites offer free player images, including CNN.com and ESPN.com.

    • 2

Navigate to your child's favorite team's page. Both CNN and ESPN have similar routes. Click on "MLB," then "Teams," then the name of your favorite team, then "Photos." Scroll through the thumbnail photos offered to find one you want, then click "View photo" at ESPN, or click on the thumbnail photo at CNN, to see a full-size version.

    • 3

Click "File" at the top of your browser, then click "Print."

    • 4

Cut out the photo when the page prints.

    Assembling the Box Cover

    • 5

Choose the photos you want to use. Use the glue stick to apply glue very lightly on their reverse sides.

    • 6

Apply the photos to the top of shoe box. If the placement isn't to your liking, they can be quickly pulled up and realigned.

    • 7

Use scissors to cut the peel-and-stick laminating sheet to fit the shoe box top, adding an extra inch or so on the long sides.

    • 8

Peel off the backing and apply to the shoe box cover. Fold the extra inch over onto the sides of the cover to make it adhere better and withstand rough handling.
