History
Upper Deck received a license from Major League Baseball and began releasing cards for the 1989 season. Upper Deck was the first brand to feature holograms on every card. The initial set featured one of the most popular baseball cards of the '90s, a rookie card of then-Seattle Mariners outfielder Ken Griffey, Jr. Upper Deck began introducing side brands such as its SP line. A rookie card from the 1993 SP set of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter also became popular.
