Organize your hockey card collection and create a list of every card you own. Typically, creating a spreadsheet containing the player's name, the brand of the card, the year the card was made, the condition of the card, and the card's number is sufficient in keeping track of your inventory.
Choose a price guide created by a professional company. Beckett offers a database that is updated daily and already contains nearly 720,000 different hockey cards and their price values. While Beckett offers a very in-depth guide, it does come with a monthly subscription fee. A free option available is the Tuff Stuff Magazine online guide. However, it does not contain the same amount of cards as Beckett and is updated less frequently.
Type the estimated price into your spreadsheet to get an approximate value of your collection. This is just an estimate, and not the true market value of your collection.
Search for previous selling prices of cards in your collection to see the true market value of your cards. This can be done by searching auction sites like eBay, or by taking them to a local dealer and determining how much he would pay for your cards.
