Instructions

    • 1

Sort through your cards prior to yard sale day. If you have cards that you know are very valuable, pull them out of any pile or grouping and place them in standard baseball display cases. Label these cards with your asking price. Locate these collector cards where you can see them during the sale day.

    • 2

Group the rest of the cards in shoeboxes (right side up) or inside flip binders. Place these boxes of loose cards or flip binders where you can keep an eye on them at all times during the yard sale: individual baseball cards are very easy to shoplift from a sale if they are located out of sight of the sale attendants. Don̵7;t bind the cards with rubber bands.

    • 3

Locate your baseball card sales area on a separate out-of-the-way sales table so card browsers won̵7;t impede the views or paths of other shoppers during the sale. Provide folding chairs for serious browsers to sit down and go through the cards if you are offering many boxes or books of cards. Provide chairs only if you want browsers to spend time ̶0;looking.̶1; Otherwise, don̵7;t accommodate them: encourage them to buy the entire box or book and take it home to browse through after a purchase.

Price your baseball cards in groups or bundles to ̶0;move̶1; quickly and post signage to this effect. Don̵7;t place individual sales stickers on the cards themselves. Establish a ̶0;take all̶1; price such as ̶0;Entire Collection $80!̶1; Set a second ̶0;bundle̶1; price like ̶0;Your Choice: Any 10 cards for $3̶1;. Offer a ̶0;per card̶1; price such as ̶0;Individual cards 50 cents.̶1; This will make the ̶0;bundle price̶1; more attractive. Make all your prices round numbers because it makes it easier to calculate and make change.

Post signs on the baseball card table to indicate whether you are open or not open to negotiating deals or haggling. If your prices are firm, say so on your pricing signs: ̶0;All prices firm!̶1; If not, say ̶0;Make An Offer!̶1; on your price signs. Be aware that ̶0;firm̶1; prices are often a turn-off at most yard sales. People expect bargains and the ability to haggle.
