How to Identify the Amount of Postage on a Stamp

Postage stamps usually have the postage amount printed on the stamp so you know how much the stamp is worth, from 1 cent and up. However, there are nondenominated stamps sold by the post office for which the value is not immediately apparent. To use a nondenominated stamp to send a letter in the U.S. you should check to see what it's worth so you are sure it will cover the postage.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the United States Postal Service website for the value of nondenominated stamps. Click on the link called "Quick Service Guide to Nondenominated Postage" on the USPS website.

    • 2

Scroll down the page and look at the pictures of the stamps to find your nondenominated stamp.

    • 3

Locate your stamp on the website. The nondenominated stamps go back to 1975, so you should be able to find your stamp's worth.

    • 4

Look at the value of your stamp. It will be 1 cent or greater. If it is less than the current price of postage you will have to add another stamp to your letter to make up the difference.
