A List of Ships That Are on Stamps

There are a multitude of stamps featuring ships. These stamps originate from countries worldwide and feature sail boats, war vessels, submarines and ships of historical note. Postage stamps have become an artistic option for portraying famous ships or ships that have achieved noteworthy accomplishments in battle. Countries often release books of stamps that feature a certain category of ships. In the early 1970s, The Ship Stamp Society was established in Great Britain to bring note to the various international stamps featuring ships.
  1. Virginia of Sagadahock

    • This stamp honors four World War II chaplains who gave their lives to save others when a German U-Boat sunk their ship.

In the United States, a stamp featuring the Virginia of Sagadahoc was issued in 1957. This ship was the first American-built ship to participate in commerce, and the stamp was issued for the anniversary of shipbuilding in the United States.

    Roman Galley

    • Monaco still offers port to all kinds of ships and watercraft.

In 1982, Monaco issued a stamp featuring a Roman galley, a war ship that could be rowed. Monaco was thought to be a port and harbor for Roman ships. The stamp also features a bust of Caesar.

    Los Angeles Class Submarine

    • The Los Angeles Class Submarine was offered in the United States for 0.33 cents in 2000. This stamp pictures a war craft submarine launched in the mid-1970s that is capable of deep-depth diving and carries heat-sensitive torpedoes.

    Trenton USS 1876

    • Stamps featuring ships often tell the story of the vessel's demise.

Samoa issued a stamp featuring this ship in 1988. The Trenton USS was built in 1876 and featured a composite iron and wood hull. The ship on this stamp sank during the hurricane of 1889, but all aboard were saved.
