How to Create Album Pages for Postage Stamps

Many stamp collectors purchase ready-made albums to house their collections, but making your own album allows you complete control over the organization of your stamps. It will also allow you to accommodate oddly shaped or sized stamps and rearrange your collection when you acquire new materials. Creating your own album pages also gives you the chance to present your stamps creatively through stamp order, decoration of album pages and written descriptions of stamps.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a heavy paper in a color like black or white that will showcase your stamps.

    • 2

Create the layout of your pages. Be sure to designate spaces for your stamps and descriptions. You can do this by hand by using construction paper, colored pencils, ribbon, and other decorating materials, or you can use a computer to design your pages and print them from a printer.

    • 3

Punch holes in the paper. Be sure the holes are even and align with the binder rings. Place the pages in the binder.

    • 4

Mount your stamps to the pages with stamp hinges. Moisten the short end of the hinge and attach it to the stamp you are mounting. Moisten the long end of the hinge and attach it to the page where you would like to place the stamp.

    • 5

Write a description for each stamp. You can use a pen to write directly on the album pages or type and print descriptions to paste into the album. The description can include dates, details of the stamp, how it was acquired and anything else you would like to remember.
