Even in this age of electronic mail, people all around the world still practice the art of philately, the study of stamps. That is not exactly the same as stamp collecting, but most people involved in collecting stamps practice that subject. If you happen to be in California, there are a number of shows and conferences held that focus on the subject of rare stamp collecting.

- The Five-Star Saturday Glendale Stamp Show is held on the last Saturday of every month in Glendale, California. This is a small show known to attract a local crowd of dedicated collectors. Orcoexpo Stamp Show
- This popular show has been an annual attraction for stamp collectors for 35 years, as of 2010. Altogether, 60 vendors display their wares, with a bit of something for every collector to enjoy. Free appraisals are offered, representatives from foreign post offices are on site and prizes are given away every day during the three-day event. Free parking is offered as well.

- According to its website, this show is called "The World Series of Philately." An annual event held the first weekend in October, it features 50 vendors and hosts a series of meetings and events. An auction is also held at the show every year. The Hilton Los Angeles Airport Hotel offers discounted room rates to show attendees and reduced-rate parking.
