How to Ship Stamps

Shipping stamps in the mail often results in damaged stamps. This can be detrimental for a stamp collector. Taking a bit of time to ensure that the stamps are properly prepared for shipping can ensure that they arrive at their destination unscathed and in their original condition. Only a few supplies that any avid stamp collector is sure to have on hand are required to prepare stamps for shipping.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the stamp in a 102 dealer card, which is a type of display card that can be purchased at a hobby store. Do not tape the top of the dealer card or attempt to seal the dealer card in any way. This is important because the chemicals used in the adhesive on tape cannot be removed from the surface of a stamp. Therefore, a stamp that has adhesive on it is damaged and cannot be repaired.

    • 2

Place the dealer card between two pieces of cardboard that should be the same size as the dealer card. If cardboard that is the same size as the dealer card is not immediately available, cut two larger pieces of cardboard to the precise size of the dealer card.

    • 3

Tape the bottom, left and right sides of the cardboard together. Do not tape the top of the cardboard together so as to prevent the adhesive on the tape from getting onto the stamp.

    • 4

Place the dealer card in the cardboard into a 4 and 1/8-inch by 9 and 1/2-inch padded envelope. Seal the back of the envelope with a piece of tape.

    • 5

Take the envelope to the post office. Ship it.
