How to Remove Sticker Stamps

Stamp collecting can be fun and profitable, but one of its challenges is removing the stamp from an envelope without ruining the stamp. A serious stamp collector must remove all traces of paper from a stamp before displaying it. Removing sticker stamps isn't difficult, but it takes some patience to pry them from the paper. There is one foolproof method for taking stamps off envelopes, and it requires just a few household items.

Instructions

  1. Envelopes

    • 1

Trim the edges of paper off the stamp. Get as close as 1/4 inch from the stamp.

    • 2

Sort the stamps that have colored envelope paper stuck to them from ones with white paper.

    • 3

Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and place 10 to 20 stamps with white paper attached into it. Gently stir the water to help loosen the adhesive.

    • 4

Wait 10 minutes for the stamps to separate and gently scoop them out with a spoon. Place them in a container of cold water.

    • 5

Scoop them after a minute and place them face down on a drying book.

    • 6

Place your stamps from colored envelopes in the container of cold water and allow them to soak for more than 10 minutes. Cold water takes longer to melt adhesive, but it will prevent colored paper ink from running into your stamps.

    • 7

Scoop the stamps out, dip them in another container of cold water to rinse and place them face down on a drying book.

    Postcards

    • 8

Cut two square pieces of coffee filter slightly bigger than the stamps.

    • 9

Saturate them in cold water and lay them on top of each other on the stamp to soak it off.

    • 10

Check your stamp after 30 minutes to see if it comes off easily.
