How to Regum Stamps

Passionate stamp collectors have re-gummed their stamps for years. Regum stamps can help restore the quality of antique stamps for aesthetic appeal or for sticking them on display. Over many years, the gum adhesive on stamps deteriorates, leaving them unattractive. Learn to re-gum your collectible stamps from the convenience of your home.

Things You'll Need

  • 1 package of plain gelatin
  • 1/2 teaspoon of corn syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract
  • 1 tablespoon of cold water
  • 3 tablespoons of boiling water
  • Brush (small paintbrush is fine)

Instructions

    • 1

Combine the package of gelatin with the cold water. Set the mixture aside for 10 to 15 minutes. Add the boiling water, corn syrup and lemon extract to the mixture. Stir it until it completely dissolves.

    • 2

Gather the stamps you wish to re-gum and lay them out face down. To protect the face of the stamps, it is recommended to cover your surface with a non-abrasive protective, such as parchment paper.

    • 3

Use the brush to lightly apply the gum mixture to the back of the stamps. Leave the stamps out overnight to dry. Store the remaining mixture in the refrigerator for later use, if you desire. Once the gum has dried, the stamps can be handled or applied to any surface.
