Things You'll Need
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 275 degrees. Mash and fold a fist-size piece of polymer clay in your hands to soften it.
Coat the model die, or another solid object that is shaped like the die you want to make, with a small drop of oil, then press it into the center of the clay. Your model die can have almost any number of faces, although it works best if it has bilateral (mirrored) symmetry, since this makes separating it from the clay easier.
Use the knife to as smoothly as possible cut the clay down the center. Obviously, you can't cut through the center of the model die, so cut around it.
Lay the two halves on a table and carefully remove the model die. You can use the flat edge of a thin knife or flat-head screwdriver to get it out. The oil applied earlier should make the removal easier. Try not to disturb the shape of the mold you are making as you do this.
Place the two halves of the mold on a tray and put the tray in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove and let cool. You now have your mold.
Put a small drop of oil inside each half of the mold, gently rubbing it on all the faces of the mold with your finger. The oil will help with the removal of the die you are making.
Take a quantity of clay slightly larger than the cube will require and place in one half of the mold. Line the other half of the mold up with the first and press them together to squeeze out the excess clay.
Separate the mold and remove the clay die. Use the knife to trim and smooth the edge where the two halves of the mold met.
Place the die on the tray and place it in the oven for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove the die to cool. You can now paint or simply write on your desired symbols with a permanent marker.
