Picking Cards
The Village is the best card to collect in Dominion because it gives you plus 1 card and plus 2 action. Dominion rules allow you to play one card per turn; however, the card you play may allow you to play another turn, such as in the case with the Village, where you can play two additional turns. If you play another village on your additional turn, you can add up your actions as you move along. The cards you add to your deck can help you attain coins to purchase Victory Points.
Action Cards
Purchase Action Cards instead of Estates, Duchys and Provinces at the beginning of the game. Those cards give you only Victory Points, and are useless until you need them at the end to collect points. With Action Cards, you are more capable of drawing on additional cards, which often leads to more Action Cards or more coins, which will help you either buy higher-value coins or additional action cards to fuel your drive to collect more coins.
What to Buy
Once you get eight treasures, buy a province. This will avoid a clogged hand, which could prevent you from accessing some of your more valuable cards, such as the action cards. Provinces are the best way to cash in your cards for Victory Points. Buy a gold card if you have six or seven treasures. Trading some of your less valuable coins for a gold will allow you to consolidate your hand to access the more handy cards. Near the end of the game, you should use your coins to instead buy Victory Points.
Victory Points
Victory Points don't allow you to make any purchases, so you don't want to collect them too early in the game because they waste space in your limited hand. Instead, focus throughout the game on attaining coins and Action Cards. Purchase Victory Points when the Provinces have almost all been bought or the three cards from the supply are gone; these include the Gold, Silver and Copper cards. The game ends when these piles are empty.
