How to Create Your Own Animal Farm Games for Free

Just as games like "Monopoly" or "Life" get kids ready for life in the business world, farm games allow children to explore some of the issues related to running a farm. Animal farm games focus on creating and expanding a business based on raising animals for food or other material products and incorporate some of the details and facts of the industry right into the game. Create your own animal farm game at home, using household items and a bit of creativity to provide hours of entertainment for the whole family.

Things You'll Need

  • Piece of cardboard
  • One die
  • Colored markers
  • Plastic farm animals (cows, pigs and chickens)
  • 4 playing pieces (can be coins)

Instructions

  1. Creating the Game

    • 1

Draw 10 box spaces on each side of the board so there are 36 in total.

    • 2

In the center of each row of spaces, draw a cow.

    • 3

To the left of the cow, draw a pig and to its right draw a chicken. Do this on all four sides of the board.

    • 4

In the first corner space write, "Farmyard." This is where all players will start.

    • 5

In the second corner write, "Taxes". All players have to pay $100 when they land here.

    • 6

In the third corner square write, "Breeding Season."

    • 7

In the fourth corner square write, "Winter."

    Playing the Game

    • 8

Place the plastic cows, pigs and chickens inside the center of the board.

    • 9

Have the first player roll the die and move that many squares.

    • 10

If he lands on a chicken, pig or cow, have him take one of those pieces from the center of the board and place it in front of him. Animals all have monetary value, chickens are worth $100, pigs are worth $300 and cows are worth $500.

    • 11

When a player lands on "Taxes," they have to sell (give up) one chicken to continue. When they land on "Breeding Season," they can collect an extra animal from the center for every pair of the same animal they posses in front of them. When a player lands on "Winter," they must give up one chicken( $100) for every $1,000 worth of livestock owned.

    • 12

The game ends when one player owns $10,000 worth of livestock, a successful animal farm, or when one player goes broke, an unsuccessful animal farm.
