Instructions
Set Up
Place the Pokemon chips face down on the circular spaces on the board that match color of the chips. Have each player randomly pick a Starter Chip for himself and show it to the other players.
Put the Pokemon Rival Cards face down in the Indigo Plateau. Separately shuffle the Event and Item cards and place one pile on each side of the board.
Pick an Ash Mover and have the player with the weakest Pokemon go first. The Pokemon with the lowest number in the picture on the starting chip is the weakest.
Game Play
Roll the die once to determine how spaces to move your Ash Mover. If you land on a space occupied by another player, move to the next space unless you land on Cinnabar Island. Multiple players can be on the same space at once on Cinnabar Island.
Draw two cards if you land on a "City or Town" space. Draw an "Event" card if you land on an event space. Follow the instructions, then put the card back on the bottom of the pile.
Attempt to catch a Pokemon if you land on a "Catch 'Em" space. Flip over the Pokemon chip on the space. Use a Poke Ball Item Card to help you if you have one.
Check the dice symbols at the bottom of the chip. These are the numbers you will need to roll to catch the Pokemon. If you roll the correct number, take the Pokemon chip, and put another chip on the empty space. Otherwise, leave the chip where it is.
Alternatives -- Battling and Trading
Stop and place your Ash Mover on the same spot as another player if you pass him. Instead of performing the action for that space, either offer to trade Pokemon or items with the other player in that spot. To trade, offer an Item card and any non-starter chip for any of his. If he does not agree, move to the space you would have landed on and perform the corresponding action.
Choose a Pokemon for battle, then select Attack Bonus Item cards. Say how many you wish to use but do not show your opponent the cards. Roll a die. Add the number on the die and any attack bonuses to the attack strength of the Pokemon, which is found underneath its name. Have your opponent do the same. The player with the highest number wins the battle.
Take two Item Cards at random from your opponent or the pile if you win the battle. Turn the opponent's Pokemon upside down to show it has been knocked out of the game. It cannot fight or add Power Points to the player's total until it is revived.
Revive knocked-out Pokemon with a Potion Item Card, a Pokemon Center Event Card, or by landing on Cerulean City or Vermilion City. If you have multiple knocked-out Pokemon, you may attempt to roll a 1 or 6 to revive them all.
Move to Cinnabar Island if you have 20 power points in your Pokemon at the end of a turn. Move clockwise until you hit an "Enter Final Battle" space. Have the other players roll dice to see who will stand in as a Pokemon Master. Battle the Pokemon Master as you would any other player. The game is over if you win. If you lose, the stand-in Pokemon Master draws two item cards and the game continues.
