Choose a playing character. The Scooby gang plays the parts of the original cast from Clue: Ms. Scarlet is played by Daphne, Scooby Doo is Colonel Mustard, Mr. Green is played by Fred, Velma is Mrs. Peacock and Shaggy is Professor Plum. Mrs. White is not represented by a Scooby gang member, but she is still available to play.
Place your token on the corresponding start tile on the game board.
Place one weapon in each of the nine rooms. Instead of the classic candlestick, lead pipe, revolver, knife, rope and wrench, Scooby Doo Clue uses Funland Robot's Ray Gun, Carlotta's Spell Book, Frankenstein's Chain, Witch Doctor's Staff, Ghost Clown's Bomb and Redbeard's Sword. The rooms in this special edition remain the same as the original except that a graveyard has been added.
Sort the cards into three groups: Suspects, Rooms and Weapons.
Shuffle each group separately and place them face down on the table.
Select the top card from each pile and without looking at it, place it in the envelope marked "Confidential." The envelope now contains three cards bearing the answers to the mystery: Who, what and where?
Combine the three decks and reshuffle.
Deal out all the cards to each player, one at a time and face down.
Check off the cards you have in your hand on your detective's notepad. Since you have these cards in your hand, they cannot be in the "Confidential" envelope.
Begin the game with Ms. Scarlet (Daphne). Roll the dice and move the corresponding number of tiles. Movement is limited to horizontal and vertical moves; diagonal moves are not permitted. The object is to make it to a room so that you can make a suggestion.
Make a suggestion if you land in a room. You must use the room you occupy in your suggestion. Choose a weapon and a suspect to accompany the room. Declare who you think committed the crime, with which weapon and in which room (the room your token is in).
Look at your cards if you are the player to the left of the accuser. If you have one of the cards he suggested, show it to him. He then checks off that card from his notepad. If you do not have any of the cards he suggested, the next player on the left shows a card, if possible.
Continue moving around the board making suggestions. Once you are confident -- through the process of elimination -- of who committed the murder, with what weapon and where, you may make an official accusation. Unlike making a suggestion, you do not need to be in the room of the crime to make an accusation.
Look in the envelope but do not let the other players see the cards. Each player can only make one accusation; therefore, if your guess is incorrect, you are eliminated from the game. If you are correct, you win.
