How to Make a Replacement Board Game Spinner Base

People have been playing board games for thousands of years. One of the earliest known examples is the Royal Game of Ur discovered in the 1920s by archaeologists excavating in Iraq. Similar to backgammon, this game dates back to 2500 B.C. Most board games today require dice or a spinner. If your spinner base has worn out, make a new one out of cardboard.

Things You'll Need

  • 5 inch by 5 inch square of sturdy cardboard
  • Steak knife
  • Game spinner
  • Black permanent marker
  • Colored pens
  • Glue

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a small slit in the center of the cardboard using the tip of the steak knife.

    • 2

Decide how high you want the numbers to go on your spinner. Most spinners go from one to six or one to 10. Draw radiating lines out from the hole with the black permanent marker, like you were cutting a pie, drawing in as many wedges as you want numbers. Draw in extra wedges if you want to add extra spaces such as "0" or "Lose a turn."

    • 3

Label each section on the spinner base with a number or phrase with the black marker. Color each wedge a different color using the colored pens.

    • 4

Push the foot of the spinner sideways through the slit in the base. The spinner foot usually has a slightly larger diameter than its post, so there will be a buttonhole effect. Push the spinner down through the base so that the top of the spinner foot is exposed. Put a dot of glue around the top of the base and push the spinner back so the top of the spinner foot is flush with the bottom of the cardboard base. Wait for the glue to dry before using the spinner and new base.
