Directions for Animalopoly

Wild Animalopoly takes the Monopoly framework and changes it into an animal theme. It is a competitive dice-rolling game that teaches about animals and their habitats. Gameplay is very similar to traditional Monopoly, with its own distinct look, feel and names. The game finishes in 60 minutes, when players must add up their scores to determine the winner.

Instructions

    • 1

Select one player to be a banker. Of course, the banker also has a personal bank account that he must keep separate from the bank. In addition to controlling the money, the banker keeps the certificates, Elements and Habitat cards until they are purchased.

    • 2

Roll dice to determine which player goes first, continuing play to the left. Players start out in the middle of the board and begin moving from the "Explore" square. Roll both dice and earn an extra roll by rolling doubles. Roll three doubles in a row and go into "Hiding," the equivalent to "Jail" in Monopoly.

    • 3

Collect $200 cash each time you land on or pass the "Explore" square. This is Animalopoly's equivalent to the "Go" square in traditional Monopoly.

    • 4

Follow instructions on the cards when you land on "Jungle Fun!" or "Get Wild!" After a card is played, it should be placed at the bottom of the deck.

    • 5

Become a caretaker when landing on an unattended animal. You must pay the cost of food printed on the bottom of the space and then collect the Caretaker Certificate for that animal. Players can sell their Caretaker Certificates to other players at an agreed upon price, but cannot sell the Elements or Habitats.

    • 6

Pay meal fees when you land on a tended animal. The fee is printed on the animal's certificate. You do not have to pay the meal fee if the Caretaker Certificate is mortgaged.

    • 7

Collect all the money in the center of the board by landing on the "Watering Hole" space. All money that is to be paid by players goes to the middle of the board, except for the meal fees and the purchase of Caretaker Certificates.

    • 8

Purchase Elements once you own all the animals in a color group. Elements are equivalent to the houses in Monopoly. The price for Elements is printed on the certificate for that animal. These increase the price of your animals' meal fees and allow you to collect more money from other players when they land on your animals.

Elements must be built evenly on each animal space, so you cannot build several elements on one space and leave the others undeveloped. Players can sell Elements back to the bank, but they must be sold back evenly.

    • 9

Purchase Habitats to earn more money for tending your animals. These are like the hotels in Monopoly. Players can exchange four Elements for one Habitat. The Habitats are blue and the Elements are green.

    • 10

Add up the scores at the end of one hour to determine a winner. Add up your cash, the Caretaker Certificates at the value published on the board, and mortgaged certificates at half the price published on the board. The player with the highest value wins the game.
