How to Play the Card Game Swap

Swap is a card game made by Patch Products suitable for two to 10 players. The game is simple to learn: The object is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards. The difficulty in getting rid of your cards is that you are constantly forced to draw extra cards from the draw pile and cannot play any cards on some turns. Each turn gives you the option to get rid of a card by playing the correct color or to play a special card to change the dynamics of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Deal 10 cards to each player. Place the remaining cards in a pile on the middle of the table to form a draw pile. The Swap deck has a total of 104 cards.

    • 2

Turn over the first card in the draw pile and place it face up into a new discard pile nearby. If the first card is a Swap card, the dealer gets to decide which of the four colors to begin play. If the card is a super swap, switch color or slap card, pay attention to the color of the card and match that color to begin play.

    • 3

Play a card from your hand. Play begins with the person to the left of the dealer and goes to the left. Every turn, you must play a card that matches the color on the top card in the discard pile, or play a special Swap card. Your turn ends after you play a card.

    • 4

Play a special card. There are several special cards in the deck: Swap, super Swap, switch color and slap cards. A Swap card allows you to switch your hand with the hand of any player of your choosing and choose any of the four colors to continue play. With a super swap card, everybody switches hands with the person next to them; the person playing the card chooses in which direction the switch goes. A switch color card allows you to change the color of play. You must choose a new color and cannot keep the same one in play. With a slap card, all players must slap the discard pile as quickly as possible. The last player to slap the pile must draw another card.

    • 5

Draw one card from the draw pile if you cannot play a card from your hand--if you do not have the appropriate color or a special card to play. If you draw a playable card, play it immediately. If you draw an unplayable card, keep it in your hand. Play passes to the next player on the left.

Get rid of all your cards. The first player to play all his cards and end up empty-handed is the winner. It does not matter what card you discard last because you win the game regardless of the card.
