Stargate Board Game

In the science-fiction series "Stargate," a diverse crew of scientists and soldiers explore the deepest regions of the universe, encountering exotic alien races and encountering intergalactic warfare. Players can replicate this fantastical experience with the "Stargate SG-1" board game, a strategy game based on the SyFy Channel series of the same name. This in-depth gaming experience caters to hardcore fans of the series, offering a plethora of gameplay options and features.
  1. Gameplay

    • In the "Stargate SG-1" board game, gamers play as the fleets and teams of Goa'uld, Asgard or Earth. Each player or team competes to explore and conquer the galaxy via a collection of starships and numerous stargates, which allow them to instantly transport to the far reaches of the game board. To gain dominance, gamers build and place combat units, nuclear weapons and starships, strategically defending their territory while acquiring new star systems. Players use a deck of "Stargate SG-1" cards to battle others, defending vital stargates.

    Specifications

    • Up to six players can partake in the "Stargate SG-1" board game, though you only need two to play. The game, which was designed by Anthony Listrom and Fleet Games, Inc. and released in 2004, takes an estimated two hours per play. Fleet Games recommends "Stargate SG-1" for players ages 10 and up. The game retails for about $20 to $30 at 2011 prices, and can be purchased from Fleet Games' website (see Resources) or at hobby stores.

    Features

    • The "Stargate SG-1" board game includes 840 miniature plastic game play figurines, each of which represent Goa'uld, Earth or Asgard ships and combat units. A combination of five six-sided dice and 50 "Stargate SG-1" playing cards determine the outcome of in-game battles. The game also includes a detailed playing board, which is laid out in iris-like circular design.

    Supplements

    • For expert gamers, Fleet Games offers free supplements that change the gameplay of "Stargate SG-1," providing additional challenges and new scenarios. These alternative rule sets alter the strengths and weakness of the game's three fleets, making for a more complex set of rules when compared to the standard rule book. Supplements also add new features, such as die-roll modifiers and sudden death fights. As of 2011, Fleet has produced two sets of free gamer supplement rules, available at the company's official website.
