How to Make a Nine Man Morris Game Board

Nine Man Morris is a game that dates back to Medieval times. The game uses a square board with a series of adjoining squares and circles. Players take turns placing nine colored stones or checkers on the board, then slide the stones along lines to line up three in a row. You can make your own simple, cardboard Nine Man Morris game board to use for learning how to play.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut out a piece of poster board that measures 18 inches on each side.

    • 2

Draw a square with a pencil on the poster board that measures 15 inches on each side. Each line in this square will be 3 inches inside the outer edge of the board.

    • 3

Draw another square inside the first one that measures 12 inches on each side. Draw a final square in the center that measures 9 inches on each side. You will have a board with three squares, one inside of the other.

    • 4

Trace over all the pencil lines with a dark marker. These are the lines along which you will move your stones.

    • 5

Place a quarter on top of one corner of one square. Trace around it with a pencil. Trace circles over each corner in each square.

    • 6

Place a quarter in the middle of one of the lines between two corner circles. Trace around it with a pencil. Trace around the quarter to create a circle in the middle of each line. Every square will now have a circle in each corner and a circle in the middle of each of the four sides.

    • 7

Color in the circles with a dark or bright marker.

    • 8

Draw lines connecting each set of three circles, both the corner sets and the sets in the middle of the lines. You will have a total of eight lines, connecting the middle square through the second square and ending up in the outermost square.

    • 9

Add names, initials, pictures or any other decoration that you like to personalize your board.
