Rhyme Time Game Instructions

The game "Rhyme Time" is designed to teach children about the English language using poems and rhymes. It features Dr. Seuss characters such as the Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2. The rules are so basic that it shouldn't take more than a few moments for you and your children to understand them. This game is appropriate for children ages 8 and up. Up to four players can play "Rhyme Time."

Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle the Rhyme and Poem card decks and place them in face down piles off of the board.

    • 2

Place a plastic pawn at the "start" space. Place each player's colored hat piece on the matching colored hat space. All of these pieces are packaged with the game board.

    • 3

Choose a starting player using any method you like, such as having the youngest player go first. She rolls a die and then moves the moving pawn on the board counter-clockwise on the blue trail on the outer edge of the board. All players use this single pawn.

    • 4

Pick up a rhyme card if you land on a "Rhyme" space. Read the rhyme card and perform the action it calls for, such as "name four words that rhyme with back."

    • 5

Move the player's hat piece one space on the board if she finishes the activity. She must stay where she is if she can't complete the activity, and the next player gets his turn.

    • 6

Pick up and read a "Poem" card if you land on a "Poem" space. Finish the action on the card, such as "make up a three line poem about your favorite pet." The player can move his hat piece three places on the board when he finishes the poem.

    • 7

Play until your hat hits a colored hat space. Change directions and move your hat back toward your original base. The first player to get to her original hat space wins the game.
