Online Instructions for the Sequence Board Game

The Sequence game combines elements of cards with an enjoyable board game. Players have the challenge of creating one or two sequences from the cards held and marking them on the playing board with colored chips. Follow the instructions for the Sequence board game to learn the special significance of some of the cards. Up to 12 players can play Sequence if you combine players into teams.

Instructions

    • 1

Shuffle the cards and determine the players and teams. Any number of players can play between two and 12 as long as the number divides evenly by two or three. Up to three people can play as individuals or more than three people must make up a team. Three teams are the most that can play.

    • 2

Deal cards face down to players. Deal seven cards each to two players, six cards to three and four players, five cards to six players, four cards to eight and nine players and three cards to 10 and 12 players.

    • 3

Provide chips of one color to a player or a team. For two players or teams, use the blue and green chips only. For three players or teams, use the red chips also.

    • 4

Begin the game with the player to the dealer's left taking the first turn. A turn consists of playing a card from the hand face up onto a personal discard pile. Each player makes his own discard pile immediately in front of him. The player also places a chip onto a space on the board that matches the card. The player then draws a replacement card from the draw pile.

    • 5

Play continues around the board to the left, with each player discarding a card and placing a chip on the board. The object is to play cards and place chips to make a five-chip sequence vertically, horizontally or diagonally.

    • 6

Use Jacks in a special way. The four Jacks that have two eyes are wild cards. Play a wild Jack by discarding it onto your discard pile and placing a chip on any space you desire. The four jacks that have one eye are anti-wild cards. Play an anti-wild Jack by discarding it and removing any opponent chip that is not a part of a sequence on the board. This ends the turn -- a player cannot play her own chip on this space until her next turn.

    • 7

Win the game when an individual player or team creates the number of sequences necessary to win. Two individual players or teams need two sequences to win. Three individual players or teams need one sequence to win.
