How to Play Darts in British Columbia

When playing darts in British Columbia, Canada, all players must abide by the rules set out by the National Dart Federation of Canada. The NDFC, as it is more commonly known, outlines the rules of the game, the setup of the board and how the game is scored. While the rules set out by the NDFC are quite similar to the game of darts played in the United States, it would be a good idea to look over the rules if you plan to play competitively in British Columbia.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand at the line marked in front of the dart board. Under the NDFC rules, each player must throw their darts from behind the toeline marked on the floor.

    • 2

Throw the darts at the board mounted on the wall. The dart board has several scoring areas. The innermost circle is the bull's eye and scores 50 points. The outer bull ring scores 25 points. The outer, narrow band scores double the value of the segment and the inner narrow band scores triple the value of the segment.

    • 3

Throw three darts per turn. Each player will get a chance to throw three darts every turn. The darts must be thrown from a standing position unless the player has a handicap that prevents them from doing so. If the dart bounces off the board, it does not get to be re-thrown.

    • 4

Wait until the scores have been called for that turn, and then retrieve your darts from the board.

    • 5

Continue throwing darts until you have reduced your original score down to zero. Like most countries, Canada plays using the 01' game system where players start with a certain amount of points (such as 301) and every time they hit a dart, they deduct points from their score. When you have reached zero, you have won the game.
