Board Games for Two-Year-Olds

When it comes to picking a board game for your growing toddler, it may seem like you have no options. Many board games warn that they contain small parts and this can be a choking hazard. Because of this, they recommend that they are not suitable for a child under three years old. But if you closely supervise your toddler, try playing some of these educational and entertaining games even if she's only two.
  1. Candy Land

    • This game is truly a classic. First introduced to the public in 1949, many generations remember this as being their first board game. Reading and counting is not required in this game where players choose a colored card and then move their gingerbread playing pieces to the designated color. The first to make it across the board to Candy Castle is the winner. The bright colors and characters are sure to become favorites of your child.

    Hi Ho Cherry-O

    • The purpose of this game is to race and see who can collect 10 cherries in her basket quickest. This game does not require reading and offers great practice in counting. It also helps with fine motor skills and coordination since kids have to practice placing the cherries back on the tree. Since it is a fast- paced game, children are usually able to remain focused for the duration.

    Lucky Ducks

    • This game is great for enhancing color and shape recognition. As the motorized ducks swim around their pond, kids will match colors and shapes. Even if the game is still too advanced for your child, they will get practice with colors and shapes. They are also sure to love the quacking noises the ducks make.

    Hungry Hungry Hippos

    • In this racing game, the task is simple and the game finishes quickly. The more the child pushes on the hippos tail, the quicker the hippo moves his mouth. The object is to see whose hippo can "eat" the most marbles. Have kids practice counting to see who caught the most marbles. Up to four players can play in one sitting.
