Monkey Board Games

Monkeys remain a constant in pop culture, thanks to fictional characters such as Curious George and Dora the Explorer's pal Boots. Aside from featuring in various movies and TV programs, monkeys also have been the subject of countless kids' games. Kids channel their inner monkey in board games that include monkeys, as well as popular monkey-related items such as bananas, coconuts and trees.
  1. Cards And Tiles Games

    • Primo the monkey needs help chasing monkey crashers away in Gamewright's "Too Many Monkeys," recommended for ages 6 and up. Players flip and swap cards in numerical order, with wild monkey cards going in any spot. Players win a round when they line up cards in numerical order; for each round they win, players have one less monkey to send away in the next round. The first player to win six rounds wins the game. Players collect monkey tiles as they spin a dial to move monkey markers on the board in Peaceable Kingdom Press' "Spunky Monkey Games," recommended for ages 4 and up. If players spin a banana during their turn, they gain an extra turn; if they spin a banana peel, they lose a turn. The player collecting the most monkey tiles wins.

    Monkey Action Games

    • Players risk knocking monkeys off the bed with a press of the red bedpost in University Games' "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed," recommended for ages 3 and up. Based on the classic children's book, the game requires players to press the bedpost after putting monkeys on the bed. To win, players must collect four action tokens and have four or more monkeys on the bed. Players take turns miming characters or actions in Cranio Creations' "Monkey See Monkey Do," recommended for ages 6 and up. "Monkey See" cards determine what players mime, while "Money Do" cards indicate positions players must assume when they mime. Players grab the "Power Banana" to make guesses and earn "Monkey Do" cards upon guessing correctly. The player collecting the most "Monkey Do" cards wins.

    Monkey Tree Games

    • A selfish gorilla tries to knock monkeys off a banana tree in Tactic Games' "Monkey Mischief," recommended for ages 4 and up. Players move monkeys up the tree until reaching the top. If players spin "Gorilla" during their turn, they flip the "Climb" lever on the motorized gorilla's back. After the gorilla climbs, monkeys that fall off the tree start again from the bottom. The first player landing three monkeys on the top leaves -- and surviving one final gorilla climb -- wins the game. Players hang monkeys from a tree above a crocodile swamp in International Playthings' "Monkeying Around," recommended for ages 4 and up. The chance that monkeys will fall increases with each monkey added. The first player who successfully hangs all of his monkeys on the tree wins.

    Miscellaneous Games

    • Players try to collect the most bananas as they move play pieces up game-board vines in Games to Remember's "Funky Monkeys," recommended for ages 4 and up. Certain spaces impact players' climbing progress; for instance, players move their play pieces to the bottom of the tree after landing on banana-peel spaces. The player collecting the most banana cards wins. Angry monkeys unleash coconuts in Milton Bradley/Hasbro's "Monkey Madness," recommended for ages 3 and up. Players use mallets to hit coconuts, and score points for each coconut collected. Green coconuts and purple coconuts are worth 1 point and 2 points, respectively. The player earning the most points wins.
