How to Win Playing Mahjong

Mahjong is a game of Chinese origin and has several variations. The standard game has 144 tiles and the purpose of the game is to match and remove all the tiles in the shortest time available, which will give the player the maximum score. Mahjong is still played on tables and flat surfaces with decorated tiles siimilar in size to dominoes.

Computer mahjong games are easy to learn for basic moves. The tiles have 42 different pictures on them, and you have to match all tiles with the same picture. The tiles disappear when matched correctly and the game is over when you have finished matching all the tiles.

Select a tile that is free, meaning that it should not be covered by another tile, nor should any tiles be touching it on the left or right sides. You can also select tiles that have another tile touching the top part or bottom part.

    • 2

Your tiles must match exactly the sign or symbol on the board's tiles, except for the special tiles. There are eight of these which portray flowers and seasons. You can match one flower with any flower, or one season tile with any other season tile. You can't match a flower tile with a season tile.

Play any layout, such as tiles stacked one on top of the other or placed one beside the other. If your software offers it, you can even make your own layout with a layout editor.

Get a bonus by matching all the tiles in as little time as possible. The quicker you complete the game, the more points you will earn --- but plan your moves carefully to avoid running out of moves. This will result in a lost game.

Record your score at the end of each game. When you match the tiles, you get a score according to the different base values of each tile, which is multiplied with the number of tiles left divided by two. Choose the high-score tiles early in the game whenever you can.
