Night Winter Games

Many people live in states that have harsh winters, with heavy snowfall and cold temperatures. While some people like to get out for winter recreation, there are some that just prefer to stay in the comfort of their own homes. For families, watching television night after night can be boring. Games are a special way for families to gather for some quality time together. Consider adopting one night a week as family game night.
  1. Board Games

    • According to Health Guidance, board games bring families together. Board games are a great way to spend a winter evening with your family. For your game nights, allow a different family member to be in charge of picking the games each time. Set an allotted amount of time for game playing. If you have old games in your closet, this is a good place to start for picking games. Purchasing a few new ones is also a good idea that adds some variety to your game playing. Monopoly, Scrabble, Clue, Sorry, Life, Battleship and Candy Land are recognizable classic board games that have been favorites among families, last long if taken care of and are inexpensive.

    Games Benefitting Young Children

    • Families with younger children can also benefit from family game night. For many years, families have gathered for game playing. Games not only are an amusing way to spend an evening together but are also good for learning valuable life skills. For younger children, games like Don't Break the Ice, Kerplunk, Ants in the Pants and Don't Spill the Beans are good for motor skills, help develop hand-eye coordination and aid in language development. Games like Hi-Ho Cherry-O and Life are good ways to work on counting skills.

    Incredible Indoor Games

    • Kids and parents can enjoy games that are action packed and get you moving. These types of games provide enjoyment on an evening with bad weather. Indoor Foot Volley Ball, Barefoot Boccie, Balloon Sandwich and Bowling Pin Derby are challenging games that will provide many laughs. The good thing about these games is that they are playable with items you likely have around the house like balloons, socks, paper cups and modeling clay.

    Charades

    • Charades is another classic game that most will remember playing at one time or another. This game is perfect for family game night or parties. Consider playing some variations of this game. Celebrity-themed charades can include movie, television or song titles. Book themes such as titles, authors or characters can add a bit of a challenge. Bible themes are good for reinforcing Bible studies. Have your group act out parables, Bible characters or biblical phrases.
