St. James Place
St. James Place is in first position of the orange properties and can be purchased for $180. If you own all three orange properties, you can put a house on any property you want at a cost of $100 per house. Rent for any player who lands on St. James Place if the property has no houses is $14, but increases to $28 if you own all three properties. The rent is $70 if one house is built, $200 with two houses, $550 with three houses, $750 with four houses and $950 with a hotel. The mortgage value of St. James Place -- the selling price to the bank -- is $90.
Tennessee Avenue
Tennessee Avenue is the second in sequence of the orange properties on a Monopoly board. It can be purchased by any player for $180, with houses costing $100 each to build if a player owns all three properties. If you own this property and a player lands on it, the rent is $14, but it increases to $28 if you own all three. Rent for players who land on this property when houses have been built is $70 with one house, $200 with two houses, $550 with three houses, $750 with four houses and $950 with a hotel. The mortgage value of Tennessee Avenue is $90.
New York Avenue
New York Avenue is the last in sequence of the orange properties and is the most expensive at a cost of $200. A player landing on New York Avenue when it's the only one of the three orange properties you own has to pay you $16 in rent. If you own all three orange properties, a player landing on New York Avenue owes you $32 in rent. Houses cost $100 each to build, and rent for a player landing on this property is $80 with one house, $220 with two houses, $600 with three houses, $800 with four houses and $1,000 with a hotel. The mortgage value of this property is $100.
Strategic Value
The orange properties are only six, eight and nine spaces removed from the "Jail" square, meaning there is an increased likelihood that opposing players will land on either St. James Place, Tennessee Avenue or New York Avenue. Because so many players end up in the "Jail" square, when they're released, they'll have to pass through your orange properties on their way around the board. If they land on the "Community Chest" card and go back to jail, that represents yet another opportunity for them to land on your orange properties. If you've built houses or hotels, this can quickly add to your coffers, especially since players haven't crossed the "Go" space to collect their $200.
