Open the game board. Players must choose tokens and set them aside.
Set out the cards. Unlike the standard version of Trivial Pursuit, the 25th Anniversary Edition has a separate card for each of the six categories. Each card type has its own colored plastic card holder that corresponds with the colored spaces on the board: blue for Geography, pink for Entertainment, yellow for History, purple for Art &Literature, green for Science &Nature and orange for Sport &Leisure. Each card has six questions -- two for each degree of difficulty.
Place the game pieces in the starting position in the center of the board and set the corresponding pawns on the outer Bonus Track. This outer circle gives players different abilities, such as slowing down other players or getting free wedges. The Bonus Track spaces include the "Face-Off Zone," in which any player can challenge another player that is attempting to answer a question for a wedge. During a Face-Off, the first player to answer correctly wins the wedge. The "Slow Down Zone" allows a player to move an opponent's game piece anywhere on the board to slow that player's progress. The "Easy Cheesy Zone" gives players an easy question for a wedge regardless of what they roll. The "Freebie Zone" gives players a free wedge of their choice.
Roll the die to select the player who goes first. Each player rolls the die on his turn and moves his game piece on the inner circle the same number of spaces the die shows.
Answer a trivia question from the category that corresponds to the space on which the player landed. The player receives an easy, medium or difficult question based on the roll of the die. If the player rolls a 1 or 2, she gets an easy question. Rolling a 3 or 4 earns a question of medium difficulty. A 5 or 6 results in a difficult question. If answered correctly, the player gets to roll again.
Move the pawn on the outer circle based on question difficulty. The pawn moves one space for a correct answer to an easy question, two spaces for a medium question and three spaces for a difficult question.
Collect wedges from each of the six categories by landing on the corresponding wedge spaces and answering a question correctly.
Move toward the center of the board for the final question after filling your game piece with all six wedges. You must land on the center hexagon by an exact die roll. Your opponents will decide the final question's category after you reach the center of the board. The difficulty of the final question is still based on the die roll.
Answer the final question correctly to win the game. A player failing to answer the final question correctly may move out of the center and return for another chance to answer the final question.
