Things You'll Need
Instructions
Design the harp you plan to build to give you an idea of the how result may look. Make sure the harp you design is not over-sized for the person who will be using it. Your fingers should be able to reach all the strings on the harp.
Shape your lumber. Using hardwood will give you the best sound and better looks in the end. Use your power tool to shape the wood properly according to your design.
Assemble all the harp pieces to make sure there are no issues with the correct fit. Disassemble the harp, and sandpaper all the pieces in a back-and-forth motion until smooth.
Put the harp together using your wood glue. Let this dry for two hours to ensure it will hold up to drilling.
Drill the holes for the strings in the bottom of the harp. Space these evenly at half an inch apart. Hang a plumb bob on the top of the harp to find where you should add the tuning pegs.
Decorate your harp using an oil-based stain. Apply wood paint for a more unique look. Screw in the tuning pegs.
String your harp by threading all the ends through the bottom holes of the harp. Twist them through the tuning peg, and tie them tightly to prevent slipping.
