Instructions for Crokinole

The board game Crokinole consists of 24 wooden playing chips and an octagonal board with target areas similar to a dart board. The main goal is to slide the playing chips far enough across the board to reach the 20-point bull's-eye. The ring directly surrounding the bull's-eye has eight pegs protecting it. A chip stopping there is worth 15 points. Two other rings are worth 10 and five points. Crokinole, which may have developed in the 1860s in Canada, can be played by two or four players.

Instructions

    • 1

Divide the playing chips between players, with one color per team. In a two-player game, each player gets 12 chips of the same color. If there are four players, each one gets six chips each.

    • 2

Shoot a playing chip from the starting line. Each player has his own starting line in front of his playing area. Each player flicks chips either with the index or the pinky finger alone.

    • 3

Aim for an opponent's chip if it is not in the bull's-eye. if a chip is knocked off the board, it cannot be replayed. Remove any chips that do get in the bull's-eye and stack it beside your playing area.

    • 4

Remove your playing chip from the board if it does not come into contact with your opponent's chip. If your shot hits your opponent's chip, but neither chip enters the ditch, both chips remain on the board.

    • 5

Repeat until all of the chips have been played.

    • 6

Score each team's points. If a chip lies on the line separating points, the lower of the two must be recorded. No points are recorded for chips touching the starting line.

    • 7

Split the difference between the teams. If Team 1 scored 30 and Team 2 scored 20, Team 1 gets 10 points. Begin the second round with the person to the left of the player who finished the previous round.
