Vowels
Vowels make up nearly half of the tiles in a complete bag of "Scrabble" tiles. There will be 12 tiles for the letter E, nine each for the letters A and I; eight tiles for the letter O; and four tiles for the letter U. The letter Y, which may be counted as a vowel, is on two tiles.
Consonants
There is one tile for the letters J, K, Q, X, and Z. There are two tiles each of B, C, F, H, M, P, V, and W. The letter G is on three tiles and the letters D, L, and S are on four tiles. Letters N, R and T have six tiles each.
Blanks
Each bag features two blank tiles. The blank tiles can stand for any letter in the alphabet and play a major role in game strategy. A player with a blank tile can use it at her discretion to finish any word.
