Rack Points
Each player starts a game with seven tiles, and some will have multiple word possibilities. Place words first where the premium squares can be used even if a longer word is available. The word "batter" is worth more by itself than "tab," but "tab" may fit easier into certain places that contain triple letter premium squares.
Two-letter words
Learn all of the two-letter words of Scrabble to overcome a troublesome layout. There are more than 100, and only 27 are commonly used in everyday conversation. Uncommon two-letter words include "ag," "ar," "ef," "es," "fa," "fe," "ka," "ki," "li" and "na."
Bingo
Save short letter combinations like "ing," "ed," "ier," "iest" and "ation." These work as endings for thousands of words and can lead to Bingos - seven-letter words compromised entirely of a single rack.
"Q" Tips
It can be difficult to find the "u" needed to make common words that begin with the letter "q." Learn other words that use "q," such as "qat," "qadi" and "qi." "Q" is too highly valued to ignore or let sit too long in hopes you draw a "u."
General Tips
Save blank tiles for possible seven-letter word combinations or high-point words. Put aside prefixes like "out," "fore," "over" and "under" for seven-letter combinations. Always look for possible "hooks," or opportunities to add letters to words to make entirely new ones. For example, use a "p" to make the word "late" into "plate."
