How to Make Homemade Toddler Board Games

Toddlers are constantly learning new things and exploring the world around them. Creating a board game to further engage the mind of a toddler will add to the learning experience. Create board games with images containing bright colors and familiar objects to capture the toddlers attention. Adding large letters and numbers to the homemade board game will help the toddler become familiar with numerical and alphabetical symbols as well.

Instructions

    • 1

Set a 11 by 17 inch sheet of matte board or foam board on a table. Mat board and foam board are used to display photographs, and may be purchased from the craft store.

    • 2

Cut a sheet of construction paper to 10 by 16 inches with scissors. Turn the sheet of construction paper over and apply glue on the back surface, from corner to corner. Paste the construction paper over the mat board's center top surface, then allow the glue to dry.

    • 3

Snip 16 to 20 images from a children's magazine, such as animals, sports gear or food with scissors while the glue dries on the board. Layout four to five images across each side of the board's top surface.

    • 4

Flip each image over individually and place glue on the back surface. Paste the images over the construction paper in their corresponding areas, 1 ½ inch in from the construction paper's edge. Allow the pasted images to dry for 10 minutes.

    • 5

Write instructions below each image such as "Move three spaces up to the apple" or "Skip ahead to the green car." Use building blocks or toy cars as each player's game piece to move around the board.
