Prehistoric Park Board Games

The "Jurassic Park" book and subsequent film series contributed to our ongoing fascination with dinosaurs. In the book, dinosaurs were recreated using DNA and placed in a wildlife-styled theme park, which resulted in some dire consequences. The concept was the inspiration for several board games where players have to run their own dinosaur parks, and, in some cases, escape from them.
  1. Dino Business

    • Imagine discovering an island on which dinosaurs can be resurrected. Now imagine that you aren't the only person working on this island. In the board game "Dino Business" by Playoff Games, you are in this situation. The island is dissected by three rivers, and only one section of the island is available at a time. The sections have pens which can hold one dinosaur at a time, and you have to score as many points as you can by raising dinosaurs and acquiring as many neighboring paddocks as possible.

    Dinosaur Island

    • On Dinosaur Island, where the Parker Brothers board game of the same name takes place, dinosaurs roam free. You and your opponents are photographers who have landed on the island and are trying to out-snap your foes. Each turn, you move to a location and draw a card to find out whether or not you have successfully taken a photo. Some of the cards are also used to thwart your opponent's efforts. The player with the most points from photos wins the game.

    Jurassic Park Game

    • In the original film and book "Jurassic Park," visitors to a fantastic island housing prehistoric reptiles are attacked when the computer system running the complex dinosaur park fails. In the Milton Bradley board game based on the movie, the same scenario takes place and you have the opportunity to take the mantle of a character and try to escape the island. The board includes a number of 3D cardboard buildings, and many of the scenarios from the movie.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park Game

    • In the sequel to the blockbuster film, there is a second island on which the science behind Jurassic Park was developed. Based on the film, this board game follows a handful of adventurers who explore the island, only to find it more than they could handle. Again, you have to escape the island, despite all of the prehistoric animals coming to get you. There are more cardboard buildings, and the goal is to reach a helicopter that will take you to safety.
